Civil society calls for shutdown over 35A

SRINAGAR: The J&K Civil Society Coordination Committee has called for a statewide shutdown on August 27 to protest against what the group termed as an “onslaught” against Articles 35A and 370.

The J&K Civil Society Coordination Committee has called for a statewide shutdown on August 27 to protest against what the group termed as an “onslaught” against Articles 35A and 370.

Deputy grand mufti Nisar-ul-Islam and Awami National Conference president Muzafar Shah, who are a part of the newly formed coordination committee, while addressing a press conference on Saturday said it was the "collective responsibility" of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to protect Articles 370 and 35A.

While calling for a shutdown on August 27 when the bunch of petitions challenging the Article 35A is expected to come before the Supreme Court, they said "people would not allow Kashmir to become another Palestine”.
