Srinagar, December 21

Clashes erupted between protesters and security forces personnel in some areas of the Valley after the Friday prayers.

Reports from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district said soon after the Friday prayers, clashes erupted in the area as protesters tried to take out a march against the civilian killings last week.

“The clashes continued for some time,” eyewitnesses said.

Meanwhile, Pulwama continued to observe a shutdown for the seventh consecutive day on Friday against the killing of seven civilians last week. Security forces had allegedly fired at protesters last week following an encounter in which three militants and a soldier were killed.

Clashes also broke out near Jamia Masjid in Srinagar’s old city after the Friday prayers. — TNS
