Dasehra was celebrated with enthusiasm across Jammu city on Thursday. Effigies of demon king Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran were burnt on the occasion.

At the main function organised by the Sanatan Dharam Sabha at Parade Ground, thousands of people witnessed the burning of effigies marking the victory of Lord Rama over demon king Ravana. As the effigies were put to flames, slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ rented the air.

Before the culmination, a procession was taken out from the historical Raghunath Temple, which passed through different markets in the city.

A similar function was organised at Gandhi Nagar. Former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP MLA Kavinder Gupta were the chief guest.

Ram Navmi celebrated

The Navratra festivities concluded with the immersion of ‘Saakh’ (barley sprouts) in the Tawi on Thursday. Since morning, hundreds of devotees reached at the banks of the river and offered prayers to mark Ram Navmi.
