On the eve of polling in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) urged people to defeat the ‘politics based on lies and deceit’.

Kulgam which is part of the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, will go to the polls on Monday.

In a statement, the Congress said the parties doing ‘politics based on lies and deceit’ were aiming at ‘misleading the people on various counts for the sake of electoral gains’.

It urged the people to ensure the victory of Congress candidate from the Anantnag parliamentary constituency Ghulam Ahmad Mir with a thumping majority.

The party said: “The Congress will do everything to ensure the safety and security of the people, besides overall development of the state, particularly of south Kashmir, which has witnessed the ugliest period of three and a half years of misrule and misgovernance by the PDP.”

The JKPCC also hit out at the BJP for pledging to abrogate Article 35A that accords special status to the state. “The BJP as per its election manifesto has pledged to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A in order to mislead the people in the country for electoral gains, which is condemnable. It is the responsibility of the people to defeat their designs by ballot and ensure the victory of the Congress, which stands guarantee to the special status granted to J&K under the Constitution,” it said.
