JAMMU, August 16

The admission process for all undergraduate and post-graduate courses finally began at the University of Jammu (JU) on Friday, with the display of merit lists in 37 departments of the university.

The process has been delayed for almost a fortnight due to the prevailing circumstances post revocation of J&K’s special status.

According to the university, there are around 2,500 seats in 37 departments on the main campus and other off-site campuses for which admissions are to be conducted.

“We had to revise the admission schedule due to the prevailing situation. The first merit list was scheduled to be displayed on August 6 but this process got delayed by almost 10 days. Around 11,000 candidates had appeared in the Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET) this year,” Professor Keshav Sharma, Dean, Academic Affairs (DAA), said.

Professor Sharma said they had made elaborate arrangements for hassle-free admission process on the main and off-site campus.

“Keeping in view the prevailing situation, we have decided to give all possible options to students to deposit their admission fee, including debit card and credit card swiping machines, cash and demand draft, to ensure that they (students) don’t face any difficulty. The departments will ensure that the cash and demand drafts so collected on account of admission fee are deposited in the bank on daily basis,” the Dean said.

The university officials disclosed that a total of about 24,000 application forms have been received for 2,500 seats. “A large number of students have applied for two or more than two academic departments. The second merit list for all academic courses, if required, will be displayed on August 20. The last date for the completion of admissions by the departments or nodal departments for all categories, including transfer cases from one category to another or from one programme to another, will be September 2,” they said.

The officials said, “It has been decided that the class work of Semester I for the current academic session will start as and when 70 per cent admissions are made by the department”.

On June 24, the JU authorities, while giving a major relief to the students, had announced online payment system for examination and other fees from July 1.
