Srinagar, October 3

The Principal of Government Dental College, Srinagar, Dr Reyaz Farooq has been caught on camera allegedly practising privately at his clinic, considered as a violation of rules governing the heads of government institutions.

A video went viral on Tuesday showing Farooq in a clinic and writing prescriptions for a patient.

In the video, a patient is heard saying this is the clinic of a doctor, who happens to be the Principal of Government Dental College, Srinagar, and is “practising in private”.

However, Farooq denied the allegations and said the video was recorded to malign his image. “The clinic recorded in the video belongs to my brother who is an orthopaedic. I was at the place and someone came for consultation regarding some complications. I checked him as I’m also a doctor,” Farooq said.

Farooq is working as the caretaker principal of the Srinagar college since 2004.

The state on January 6 had removed the Director, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, Dr AG Ahanger and suspended the institute’s top three doctors after they were found practising privately.
