Devotional song contest begins at Katra festival

SRINAGAR: J&K Bank chairman Parvez Ahmed on Thursday inaugurated the All-India Devotional Song Competition as part of the Navratra festival at Yog Ashram Complex, Katra, by lighting a traditional lamp.

J&K Bank chairman Parvez Ahmed on Thursday inaugurated the All-India Devotional Song Competition as part of the Navratra festival at Yog Ashram Complex, Katra, by lighting a traditional lamp.

J&K Bank director DK Pandoh and Hotel Association, Katra, president Rakesh Wazir, who is also chairman of the devotional song committee, were present.

Parvez appreciated the efforts of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, tourism department and all other stakeholders for grand preparations for the organisation of the festival every year.

He said the consistent efforts of the shrine board had placed the holy town of Katra on the map as an important destination.

Prizes given to participants

On the first day of the preliminary round of the contest, Sushmita from Jammu got the first position and Khushi Shubh from Chamba, HP, got the second position, while the third position was shared by Sumit Bhalla and Mohinder Soni from Jammu. Cash prizes were given to the 10 participants who auditioned. — TNS
