Doda, October 3
Ahead of the urban local bodies and panchayat elections, Dilbag Singh, DGP, on Wednesday visited Doda and Kishtwar to review the security situation in the districts.
“We have made all security arrangements for peaceful panchayat and local bodies elections. I have discussed the arrangements and security situations with officers in the twin districts,” the DGP told mediapersons in Doda.
On the detention of a Kashmiri youth by the Punjab Police in connection with the case of a special police officer (SPO), who fled with seven AK-47 rifles from the residence of a PDP MLA in Srinagar on Friday, the DGP said, “No one has been formally arrested so far. There were inputs with agencies and he is being questioned. Right now, we are not in a position to say anything about his involvement.”
“SPO Adil Bashir has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen and I am hopeful that his journey would be short,” he said.
On a Doda youth joining militancy recently, the DGP said, “The Chenab valley has always been known for its brotherhood and communal harmony. It was declared militancy-free many years ago due to the joint efforts of the police, forces and the civil administration.” — OC
