Jammu, July 14
The Team Jammu on Sunday expressed concern over the growing incidents of crime by drug addicts. It regretted that the advisory committees constituted by the state government to eradicate the menace had failed to take any step.
Pointing towards the gruesome murder of an elderly couple by a drug addict in Kathua on Saturday, chairman of the Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal regretted that except holding photo sessions and seminars in air-conditioned rooms, nothing concrete had been done to liberate the youth from the menace.
Jamwal said the state administration had constituted the state-level Policy Implementation Monitoring Committee and the divisional-level De-addiction Centre Monitoring Committee for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions under the drug de-addiction policy in March.
“We hope that the committees work at the grass-roots level to create public opinion against drug addiction but it has been observed that the panels are only on paper,” Jamwal said.
He said the menace of drug addiction was spreading to every nook and corner of the state but the authorities were in deep slumber.
Jamwal sought the support of the civil society to eradicate the menace of drug abuse. He said the cooperation of every section of society was must to liberate the younger generation from drug addiction.
