Governor NN Vohra and First Lady Usha Vohra hosted ‘At Home’ at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre here on Wednesday evening to celebrate Independence Day.
Nirmal Kumar Singh, Assembly Speaker; Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of High Court; Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister; K Vijay Kumar, and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Advisers to the Governor; judges of the High Court; legislators; BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary; SP Vaid, DGP; Lt Gen AK Bhat, GoC, 15 Corps; a large number of serving and retired senior civil, police, Central Armed Police, Army and Air Force officers, Vice Chancellors, prominent citizens, and leaders of various social and political organisations were among the prominent persons who attended the event.
The Governor and the First Lady interacted with the invitees and exchanged Independence Day greetings with them.
Vohra condoles death of Balramji Tandon
Srinagar: Governor NN Vohra expressed grief over the sad demise of Balramji Dass Tandon, Governor of Chhattisgarh. While paying tributes to the departed soul, he said he knew Tandon since the 1960s, when he was serving in Punjab. In a condolence message here on Wednesday, the Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family in their hour of grief. Balramji Dass Tandon passed away at a hospital in Raipur on Tuesday. TNS
Adviser discusses welfare schemes
Srinagar: Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Adviser to Governor, held discussions with Governor NN Vohra about the status of important schemes and programmes related to the departments under his charge. Ganai, during his meeting, also briefed the Governor about certain important administrative issues which call for urgent discussions in the State Administrative Council. The Governor and Ganai reviewed various issues related to school, college and university education and possible initiatives to be taken for regaining the trust of youth. tns
