He was the tallest leader of J&K, say Advisers to L-G

SRINAGAR: Contrary to the BJP-led Central Government’s stand on politics of National Conference founder Sheikh Abdullah, Advisers to Lieutenant-Governor GC Murmu on Thursday were all praise for him.

Srinagar, December 5

Contrary to the BJP-led Central Government’s stand on politics of National Conference founder Sheikh Abdullah, Advisers to Lieutenant-Governor GC Murmu on Thursday were all praise for him. They called him as the tallest leader of J&K.

L-G Adviser KK Sharma lauded the services of the ex-CM, who conceived the idea of establishing Kashmir’s premier health institution, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

“Sheikh sahib was certainly the tallest leader, who conceived the ideas of changing the developmental scenario of J&K back then when it was needed the most,” Sharma said at the 37th annual day function of the SKICC celebrated here on the birth anniversary of the NC founder on Thursday.

Praying for the soul of the late leader, Sharma said SKIMS had filled a great void by providing better patient care within J&K. “I have learnt that people from far-off areas of J&K and elsewhere have been visiting the institute for treatment.”

L-G Adviser Farooq Khan said he would be doing a disservice to Sheikh Abdullah if he doesn’t take his name for the kind of services he provided to people of J&K.

He also recounted some of the historical events and path-breaking initiatives at the SKIMS.

Khan said with the establishment of SKIMS in late 1980s, the people of J&K got facilities like AIIMS in Kashmir. —TNS
