Leh, October 18

To achieve financial inclusion in the remote areas of Ladakh, 35 ultra small branches have been opened by J&K Bank in the border villages of Leh.

Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated the ultra small branches through videoconferencing at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, Srinagar, on Thursday.

Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Dorjey Mutup also attended the event as a guest of honour.

Tsewang Dorjey, an official of the bank, said this was an outreach programme to provide banking facilities at the doorsteps of people in remote villages.

The establishment of the branches was done within a period of three months.

Dorje said the project was being implemented as a model for Ladakh and it was planned to be replicated in other districts and areas of the state. The daily functioning of the branches will be monitored by the zonal branch.

With the establishment of ultra small branches in 35 villages, a total of 111 villages are now connected with banking services.
