The final-year undergraduate students of the University of Kashmir who had alleged faulty evaluation of their answersheets are in a fix. The general merit list for the new session is out and the re-evaluation results are still not declared, thus putting their careers at stake.
Blaming the university, the students said it was difficult for them to get admission into a postgraduate course as the issue of the faulty evaluation was yet to be sorted.
“Our results were declared in September. We were shocked to find that we failed to qualify some papers. However, after showing the xerox of our papers to our professors, we found out that the marking was unjustified,” said Irfan Ahmad, a student from Bandipora who has been declared unqualified in one paper.
Around 300 students in the university had similar complaints who said their 5th and 6th semester exams were not evaluated properly and they were declared unqualified in one or two papers.
“We have applied for re-evaluation and the result has not been declared till now. Also, the merit list for the new session is out, but I don’t think I will be able to join the classes due to the delay in results,” a student from Khag village in Budgam said.
“The admissions will be completed by the end of this month. We demand that the papers be re-evaluated on a fast-track basis so that our career is saved,” another student Asif Ahmad said while appealing to the KU Chancellor to intervene in the matter.
Many students said they had applied for provisional admission in the university and they also secured a place in the merit list. They said if they the re-evaluation results were not declared soon, they won’t be able to join the new course.
Meanwhile, Controller of Examination, KU, Farooq Ahmad Peer said the papers were being re-evaluated.
“The grievances of students have been taken into consideration. There has been little delay due to the election holidays and shutdown. We will declare the results soon. If there are genuine cases, we will surely help them,” Peer added.
