Doda, October 19
The road which connects the Kashtighar tehsil with Doda district was blocked by a landslide on Friday.
The landslide occurred around 8 am at Acha-Mod, around 20 kilometres from the district headquarters.
There was, however, no report of loss to human lives. Locals said boulders rolled down in the mudslide. They said due to fear of more landslides, many families in the area had left their homes and moved to safer places.
Kashtighar tehsildar Irshad Ahmed said: “The tehsil has been cut off from the district headquarters due to the landslide. Men and machinery were swung into action after the incident, but as the landslide has not stopped, the authorities are unable to open the road.”
“Fearing more landslides, we issued an advisory in the area and asked people living near the landslide zone to move to safer places. We have also evacuated students from the village school. However, damages have been reported to a graveyard and private property in the area,” the tehsildar said.
Amin Zarger, a local, said: “Landslides created massive damages in the area and disconnected it from the rest of the district. People have been facing hardships as they have to travel on foot in the absence of transport.”
Zarger said the landslide had occurred due to the road construction work and blamed officials of the executing agency for it.
