Massive landslides block J&K highway for 12 hrs

UDHAMPUR: Massive landslides were witnessed on the Jammu and Kashmir highway near Kheri around 4-km away from the district headquarters here today.

Massive landslides were witnessed on the Jammu and Kashmir highway near Kheri around 4-km away from the district headquarters here today.

Due to heavy rain early in the morning, there were landslides on the highway near Kheri.Huge boulders and debris could be seen across the road due to which the traffic remained suspended for more than 12 hours.Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the highway.

Men and machinery were pressed into service  to clear the highway. JCB machines  were deployed for immediate removal of debris.”, Said an officer supervising the restoration work.

The highway was cleared of debris and was opened to traffic, said Love Karan Tanaja, DSP, (Traffic).
