Jammu, July 22

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday foiled an infiltration attempt on the International Border (IB) by killing an intruder this morning in the Hiranagar sector of Jammu.

The incident occurred around 7 am near the Bobiyan border outpost when a man was doing a recce along the fence from the Pakistan side and was challenged by the BSF.

A BSF spokesperson said the BSF troops deployed along the International Border in the Hiranagar area observed suspicious movement and saw a man hiding behind foliage. The spokesperson said the man took the advantage of the hazy weather and foliage and crossed into the Indian territory.

“The alert BSF troops challenged the man to stop. Instead of paying heed to the warning, the individual tried to take cover in the nearby undulating ground. A BSF sentry shot the man, foiling a possible infiltration,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said it was assumed that the intruder was a guide of the terrorists who were waiting for his clearance signal.

The body was recovered and brought to Sub-District Hospital, Hiranagar, for a post-mortem.

The BSF has recovered Pakistani currency worth Rs 90 (9 notes of Rs 10) and election pamphlets from his possession.

Terrorists from across the border have been making continued attempts to infiltrate into the Indian side. They mostly take the help of guides to search for entry points on the International Border
