Jammu, September 25

Adviser to Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai said it was a collective responsibility of the society to take care of specially abled children.

Ganai, who was the chief guest, was speaking at the annual day-cum-award function of the School for Hearing Handicapped at Abhinav Theatre here on Tuesday.

“If we fail to fulfil our responsibility towards these children, it means we fail as a society. The cultural items presented by these special students are enough proof of their hidden talent and there is a need for further encouragement,” the Adviser added.

Ganai assured all possible support to the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, an NGO, to take up all their issues with the government, including pending aid, addition in annual grants and proposal to take Chaitanya Ashram on lease to run the institution, etc.

He also announced becoming a member of the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra. Ganai was all praise for KB Jandial, NGO chief, for running the school in a smooth manner.

For the first time, the toppers of Classes VIII, X and XII board exams were given cash prizes. The students who bagged gold, silver and bronze medals in the recently concluded All India National Deaf Judo Championship were also given cash prizes.
