JAMMU: All prominent leaders of opposition parties have been placed under house arrest by the authorities.

All prominent leaders of opposition parties have been placed under house arrest by the authorities.

While prominent National Conference leaders namely Devinder Singh Rana, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Javed Rana and Ajay Sadhotra were placed under house arrest on Monday, leaders of other parties were also not allowed by the police to come out of their houses from Thursday.

Former ministers namely Choudhary Lal Singh of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party, Harsh Dev Singh of the Panthers Party and Raman Bhalla of the Congress were have been among those placed under house arrest. Mahila Congress president Indu Pawar has also been detained at her residence.

NC provincial president Devinder Singh Rana was first to be placed under house arrest on Monday just after the Rajya Sabha approved the government resolution to abrogate Article 370 and passed the Bill to bifurcate J&K.

Curfew lifted from Sunderbani, Nowshera 

  • Rajouri: On the fourth consecutive day of indefinite curfew, the situation remained incident free in Rajouri town and in its vicinity, including Jawahar Nagar, on Thursday.
  • Except Rajouri town, the curfew restrictions have been withdrawn from other towns, including Sunderbani, Kalakot, Nowshera, Thanamandi  and Darhal.
  • The indefinite curfew was imposed on the intervening night of August 4 and 5 over the Union Government’s decision to revoke Article 370.
