Stepping Stone Playway School on Monday celebrated International Tiger Day on its premises in Jammu. The celebration was organised to raise awareness about conservation of tigers. The day is held annually on July 29. Pertinently, July 29 was earmarked as International Tiger Day in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit to protect the natural habitats of tiger and to raise public awareness besides support for tiger conservation issues. A special assembly was organised in the school wherein principal Anjali Sharma along with director Vikash Sharma and staff members namely Meenakshi, Neha and Sohani briefed students about the significance of the day and how it is celebrated in various parts of the country.

Guest lecture at Business School

The Business School, Bhaderwah campus, University of Jammu (JU), organised a guest lecture by Geetika Kholi Amla and Anmol Amla for students of MBA, BBA and B.Com (Honours). Sunil Bhardwaj, head of the department, briefed the audience about the theme of the lecture. Geetika is a member of the Poetry Society of India and is associated with a number of national and international organisations for the promotion of poetry and art & culture, besides representing the state at many national and international forums. Anmol Amla, a musician, impressed upon the need for hard work and commitment to realise one’s dreams. 

Students excel in music fest

Students of Delhi Public School (DPS) have excelled in the Inter-DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Festival-2019, held at DPS, Amritsar, on July 27. Ridima Bajpai, a Class VIII student, bagged the first prize in solo category. She was accompanied by Mukul Singh on harmonium and Sarthak Modi and Lakshay Jandial on tabla. The school students also participated in Hindustani Folk Song Competition. The group gave a mesmerising performance and was also appreciated for the use of traditional folk instruments, such as ‘kartal’. The event was judged by professors of Punjab University. School principal Ruchi Chabra congratulated the whole team and their mentors. Headmistress Meenu Gupta also extended her best wishes to all participants.

Counselling session 

 The Cluster University of Jammu (CUJ) held a counselling for aspirants who have submitted their applications at GGM Science College for admission and subject up-grade in first semester. The counselling was held in two sessions at the auditorium block of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar. The first session was held at 9 am, followed by the second at 1:30 pm.

Niranjan leads in chess 

Top seed Navalgund Niranjan of Karnataka and Hemanth Raam of Tamil Nadu were leading at 5 points each after conclusion of round 5 of the ongoing Jaiveer Singh FIDE Ratings Chess Tournament at International DPS School, Bathindi. Sparsh Khandelwal and Walde Harshal of Maharashtra and Kumar S of Tamil Nadu are few points behind the leaders, with 4.5 points each. Four more rounds are to be played in this championship wherein 120 players are fighting for top honours.

List of self-financed students out 

The University of Kashmir (KU) has released a list of candidates selected under the self-financed quota. The University said the candidates had been selected provisionally for admission to post graduate programmes/courses under self-financed seat quota at the KU main campus; south campus, Anantnag; and government-affiliated post graduate colleges; purely on the basis of merit obtained by them in the Kashmir University Entrance -2019. The admission of the candidates is subject to fulfilling formalities. 

CUK issues merit list for M Phil, PhD 

The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has issued a merit list of candidates who appeared in the entrance test for admission to M.Phil-Ph.D programme- 2019 in various disciplines. The list is available on the university website: www.cukashmir.ac.in. For shortlisting the candidates for presentation and interview, those who have qualified the entrance test with 50 per cent marks (45 per cent in case of SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled candidates), shall submit their self-attested PG marks certificates and reserved category certificate at green campus of the university in Ganderbal by or before August 2, failing which they would not be considered for shortlisting.
