SEMINAR ON plastic waste mgmt

The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organised an awareness programme on solid and plastic waste management in collaboration with Government Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat, at Ward No 1 here today.



The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organised an awareness programme on solid and plastic waste management in collaboration with Government Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat, at Ward No 1 here today. Master Jorawar Singh delivered a lecture on the subject. He explained different ways in which the waste could be disposed of. Principal of the school lauded the work of the JMC. Students appealed to the parents and people not to use polythene. They took a pledge to collect plastic waste and deposit it in the counter of JMC.

STUDENTS TAKE PART IN AWARENESS EVENT

Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School in collaboration with TATA power, Jammu, organised a programme for students wherein they had to present their views on various subjects. Tarun Popli from TATA Power advised the students against single-use plastic. Anil Kumar Sharma, manager, TATA Power, requested the students to practice conservation of energy at home also. Principal Seloni Anand presented the vote of thanks.

PLANTATION-CUM-CLEANLINESS DRIVE

The Law School, University of Jammu (JU), in collaboration with the NSS campus units around the department organised a plantation-cum-cleanliness drive. Students of ninth semester - Pallvi Sharma, Ashray Anand, Aadeesha Banotra, Vishal Sagar, Aditya Sadotra, Rupal Mahajan, Tanima Razak, Sophia Habib, Ridha, Shazia Bano and Sunny Rajput - initiated the drive under the guidance of Dr Satinder Kumar, director, Law School, and coordinator, NSS, JU. The entire law school faculty - Seema Sharma, Monica Narang, Shubha Vats, Bindu Sangra, Mrinalini Atrey, Renu Jamwal, Rajneesh Khajuria, Monika Bhardhwaj, Upasana Sharma, Vandita Sharma, Anjali Sharma, Akash Sharma, along with, NSS programme officers participated in the drive.

SM Naqvi Award for JU professor

The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, conferred the prestigious SM Naqvi Gold Medal Award to Prof Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of the geology department, University of Jammu (JU). The award was presented to Professor Bhat for his outstanding contribution in providing a renewed understanding on the evolution of Permian-Triassic (P-T) sequence across the mass extinction event units. He identified breaks in the fossil continuity across the P-T boundary transition coinciding with carbon isotope shifting, depicting large scale climatic and tectonic turnover during this time. He has also embarked on the identification and development of indigenous hydrocarbon resources, both conventional (crude oil and natural gas based) and unconventional (shale resources based).

POEM-RECITATION COMPETITION

Doon International School, Jammu, on Wednesday organised an inter-school poem recitation competition under the aegis of Sahodaya School Complex. The topic for the sub-junior level was "Mere Sapne Mere Apne" while for the junior level, the topic was "My Freedom-Real or Virtual". In all, 29 Sahodaya schools of Jammu region participated in the event. Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest on the occasion. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition.
