Srinagar, April 23

Normal life remained affected due to a shutdown called by the separatists against alleged ill-treatment of senior JKLF chairman Yasin Malik.

Shops and business establishments and most of the educational institutions were closed and public transport remained off the roads in Civil Lines and uptown Srinagar. Scanty private transport was seen plying on some roads in the district.

Reports of similar disruption in the normal life were also received from other districts of the Valley.

The authorities had made heavy deployments on the roads in the old city areas of Srinagar to maintain law and order.

The shutdown call was given by separatist political amalgam ‘joint resistance leadership’ against the alleged ill-treatment of Malik in New Delhi. Malik’s family has recently claimed that he is ailing in NIA custody. He is being probed in a terror-funding case.

Geelani expresses concern over Malik’s health

Separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday expressed concern over the deteriorating health of JKLF chief Yasin Malik. In a statement, Geelani said he has “serious concern” over the “deteriorating health condition” of Malik and also warned New Delhi of consequences “if anything untoward happens to him”.
