Srinagar, November 25
To regulate traffic in the summer capital and have designated bus stops, the administration plans to construct 100 eco-friendly bus bays across the city.In this regard, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been directed to float a tender to construct these bays.
The administration is also contemplating night bus service (from 6 pm to midnight) in the city to improve public mobility.
This was revealed during a joint meeting held among Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, SMC authorities, divisional administration and district administration.
“The Chief Secretary said the administration would float tenders for building 100 eco-friendly bus bays across Srinagar city,” said a government spokesman, adding that the Chief Secretary also directed the traffic police to ensure strict compliance with municipal laws.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner was also asked to verify the number of route permits issued in Srinagar and send a copy to the Chief Secretary’s office.
During the meeting, the absence of uniform signage or colour-coding on the public transport in the city also came up for discussion. —TNS
