Two persons, including a cop, were electrocuted, while six were injured at their homes when high voltage was reported at their houses allegedly due to some technical snag.

The incident was reported from Charoon village in Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district.

According to Neeraj Padyar, SDPO, Mendhar, in the wee hours, high voltage was reported in their houses, which damaged their bulbs and various appliances.

“To save their household items, people started disconnecting feeding electric cables to their houses and in the process, many received electric shock,” said SDPO.

Two among the eight injured died instantaneously, while others received injuries.

“At about 3.20 am, on getting information about the incident, a team of doctors, along with two ambulances, were rushed to the village. Five of the injured were provided treatment on the spot, while one seriously injured was shifted to the sub-district hospital” said Dr Parvaiz Khan, BMO.

The SDPO said among the two deceased one, namely Fayaz Ahmed, was a follower in the Police Department, while the other was identified as Mohd Shabir.

The injured were identified as Bashir Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed, Zahid Abbas, Lal Hussain, Safina Bi and a minor Nazarat Hussain.

After legal formalities, the police started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.

Sources said the reason behind the high voltage could be the touching of 33 KV transmission line with the feeding 11 KV line. Financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh was given to the next of kin of a deceased, while the matter for assistance to the other deceased and injured had been taken up with the SSP, said the SDPO.
