Nauni varsity launches vocational and certificate courses

 Solan, September 21

 To a bid to promote entrepreneurship among students, five vocational and three certificate courses were launched at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, today by the Vice-Chancellor(VC) Dr Parvinder Kaushal.

 The new courses are a part of Indian Council of Agriculture Research’s National Agricultural Higher Education Project’s, Institutional Development Plan(IDP) being implemented by the university.

Vocational courses on medicinal plants, nursery production of temperate fruits, apiculture, mushroom cultivation and flowers and value-additionare among the new courses. Certificate course on proficiency in English, presentation skills and Savoir-Faire: Speak and Act Appropriately during social gatherings were also launched today.

 VC Dr Kaushal said these courses will enhance the knowledge and skills of trainees on various aspects. He urged the students to adopt entrepeneurship and utilise government schemes.

“These courses have been developed after brainstorming sessions with experts for realizing the optimum scope of horticulture and forestry and recognising their potential.”

 Dr KK Raina, Principal Investigator of IDP informed that the courses will be offered to BSc third and fourth year students. Students can opt for the 3-month vocational courses as per their preference. The certificate courses will be of shorter duration spanning a month.

 A virtual counselling cell was also kick-started today. Series of counselling sessions with students as well as one on one interaction with counsellors from reputed medical institutions will be held to guide the students. It will help promote positive behaviour, establish good social relationships and maintain peace and friendly relationships with oneself.
