Many still believe that there are not many career opportunities in India beyond engineering, MBA and MBBS. The fact, however, is that there are several streams, which promise respectable salaries, that too without a professional degree. One such career option is event management. You can make lakhs in the field of event management. One who aspires to be a part of event management has to handle food, lights, seating, decoration, security, music, performances, sequencing, stage props, transportation, crowd management, publicity…. A team is required to manage the event and those at the helm of affairs are called event managers.

Getting into the profession

One should be good at managing and designing events, besides having a sense of décor. Event management does not require a specific qualification. If you have a creative bent of mind, you can easily mint money in the profession. You have to ensure that you are able to manage the event from its conception till its culmination.

Know the domain

Event management is not just about organising and managing a concert, but also entails paying attention to minute details, from personal to professional. It includes themes like parties, award ceremonies, weddings, anniversaries, conferences, seminars, meetings, team-building events, trade shows, business diaries, press conferences, networking events, opening ceremonies,  product launches, charitable auctions and marathons.

Where can you work?

Event managers can work with companies exclusively dedicated to event management or you can make your firm and provide services at the time of an event. You can also sign contracts with event management companies on part-time basis, and make yourself available whenever required.

Event management demands dedication. Your creativity, imagination and management of affairs will get you work on a regular basis. You have to ensure security of guests at a given event. If there is any mismanagement, you will lose out on future projects as well. You need to be vigilant and quick in getting things started and organised.

Challenges

Just like other career options, the profession demands dedication towards work and client. Since, there is no surety that you will get an event everyday, you have to give your 100 per cent whenever you bag a chance to get your account credited with money.
