Kashmir varsity observes Hindi Diwas

The University of Kashmir on Tuesday observed Hindi Diwas in which the Vice-Chancellor said there was a need to further groom the language in Kashmir.

On the occasion, Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahamd said the education standards needed to be improved and asserted that the researches should be conducted so that the students who would complete their studies from here should be known across the world.

“It is an honour that we are organising Hindi Diwas, which actually was scheduled on September 14, 2019, but due to uneasy situation it could not be organised,” he said.

“It is a privilege that our university is organising “Hindi Diwas”, he said and appreciated the Hindi Department for conducted such an event.

Prof Lily Want, Dean, School of Arts, Languages and Literature, was the guest of honour. Head of the Department of Hindi Dr Ruby Zuthsi delivered the welcome address.

Prof Talat Ahmad praised the Department of Hindi for conducting “Hindi Diwas”. “It is a very important occasion for the Hindi Department, which is a very old department of the varsity,” he said.

He said it was the basic and very important job of any university to provide quality education to the students.

He said education standards of any university should be very high and simultaneously researches should be conducted so that students could be recognised with the name of their university from where they had completed their studies.

“Kashmir University should be known as the best in the world for its education standards and research programmes,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said there was no threat to Hindi language in view of the vast population in the country. “No doubt English is an international language, but one should also learn and speak Hindi,” he added.

He said the Hindi Department of the Kashmir University would be further groomed so that it would provide better education to the students in future.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed upon the students that they should improve their spoken Hindi and correct its pronunciation.

He said it was very important for Kashmiri students to learn Hindi. “I am happy that students read poetry and prose during the function, but I urge them to improve pronunciation,” he said.

Prof Talat Ahmad stressed on the need to sign memorandums of understanding with other universities to promote Hindi language in Kashmir.
