Dharamsala, February 13

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said he was disappointed with the people and the party leadership in Kangra. He expressed his feelings this morning when the members of the Hotel Association of Upper Dharamsala, led by its president Ashwani Bamba, went to meet him at Circuit House in Dharamsala. The members of hotel association demanded financial help for a tourism event they had planned here in March.

‘Not countering Oppn propaganda’

  • n The Chief Minister said he had brought PM two times to Dharamsala and organised investors’ meet

n Dharamsala got direct benefit from the event.

n Now the Opposition has started a smear campaign against the government for organising the investors meet

n It was unfortunate that the people of Dharamsala, including the members of the hotel association, were not countering the propaganda of the Oppn

The Chief Minister said that he had brought Prime Minister Narendra Modi two times to Dharamsala and had organised Global Investors Meet. Other areas may not have benefited but the Dharamsala region got direct benefit from the event. Now the Opposition had started a smear campaign against the government over organising the Investors Meet. It was unfortunate that the people of Dharamsala, including the members of the hotel association, were not supporting the government and not countering the propaganda of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur said.

The Chief Minister was so peeved that he did not commit any financial help to the hotel association of Dharamsala for the organization of the event.

The Chief Minister has been facing a strong criticism from the Opposition, especially Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, over the organisation of investors meet. The Opposition has been demanding a white paper on the event and funds spent on it.

Leaders of the Opposition are alleging corruption in the organisation of the meet. They are also questioning the permissions under Section 118 of the Land Tenancy Act to the investors who have signed MoUs with the government during the investors meet.

The Chief Minister has been on the backfoot and single-handedly countering the allegations of the Opposition on the issue.

Sources here said that the Chief Minister was disappointed at the fact that even the BJP leaders and ministers and MLAs from Kangra were not coming out openly and supporting him over the allegations being levelled against him.

Today’s outburst of the Chief Minister that he was disappointed with Kangra is likely to create a furore both in ruling party and the Opposition. While the Opposition is likely to use it as fuel to attack the government, it is likely to create stir in BJP leadership of the district.

Some of the BJP leaders have been eyeing berth in the Cabinet when its expansion takes place. With the Chief Minister expressing disappointment with the party leadership of Kangra district, it is likely to upset plans of some leaders seeking entry into Cabinet.
