The school of social sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, organised a lecture in the memory of Jagtar Singh Dhesi here on Monday. The seminar was held under the endowment fund instituted by his family in his memory.

Prof Rajesh Gill from the department of sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered lecture on “Gender Equations: Let Us be Change Agents”. Prof Hardeep Singh, dean, student welfare, was the special guest.

The department has been organising this memorial lecture every year since 2013. Talking about Dhesi, Rajesh Kumar said he devoted his life to social work and development. He made a notable contribution to the integration of immigrants into the host society. Inspired by liberal and progressive thought, he shunned narrow dogmatic social, political, and economic ideas.

While talking about the theme of gender equality, prof Gill highlighted the fact that how “Youth Can Be Change Agents” in promoting gender equality. Professor Hardeep Singh, dean, students’ welfare, also gave his concluding remarks about the lecture.
