All eyes on him

Adhvik Mahajan

Mona

He is a Jalandhar da munda and pretty proud of his Punjabi roots. With a decade of acting on the stage, TV and films behind him, Adhvik Mahajan pretty much enjoys all that comes with it; perks and pressing deadlines, except that he still gets jittery when posing for pictures.

However, when he came to promote his latest show, Divya Drishti, in Chandigarh on Thursday, he ensured that despite the limitation, he gave a good picture, “Hamare ghar The Tribune aata hai, Papa follows it,” he says, trying a thousand angles that do justice to his good looks, chiselled face and fabulous body.

Story wise

While his new show is the story of two sisters, Divya and Drishti, played by Sana Sayyad and Nyra Banerjee, Adhvik gets into the shoes of Rakshit Shergill, a suave multi-millionaire, a mamma’s boy who likes to keep himself. He admits that he is much of an introvert like his reel self, what he doesn’t relate to is, however, Rakshit’s haughty attitude, “Attitude toh hai hi nahi shuru se, koi hello bhi karta hai to mera sar jhuk jaata hai.”

How things change when the two girls — one who can see the future, the other who can stall things — come together with Rakshit takes the show forward. A family drama with a tinge of supernatural is how Adhvik labels Divya Drishti. “It’s a heady cocktail,” he vouches.

Supernatural angle

Though he isn’t the one who would actually go to a fortune-teller, he insists having met people who can predict past and future, “We still consult astrologers before weddings and name ceremonies; and TV is just an extension of life.” The show also has a pishachini played by Sangeeta Ghosh; sadly, he is the only one without any superpowers, “I did beg them for one, but they said abhi apne charm se kaam chalao,” he laughs.

True Punjabi

While telly remains women-centric, he insists that men are an integral part of it, “And I deliberately look for roles that let me showcase my acting skills.” Apart from performing, there’s little that he cares whether its films or TV; entertaining is his only idea. And its theatre that he owes his preparation to. Happy learning each day with very talented co-stars by his side, Adhvik is open to opportunities, but for the moment it’s this show, which lets him nurture his Punjabi spirit. “Tusi bande nu Punjab ton kadh sakde ho, bande ton Punjab nahi,” says Adhvik, who admits bonding with Dharmendra while talking of Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Sahnewal.

No shortcuts to success

For anyone wishing to try his luck in tinsel town, he advises, “If you genuinely want to act, focus on it. Yahan baith kar toh kuch milaga nahi, you got to sweat it out and there is no time limit to finding success in Mumbai. Start with theatre, perform wherever you get to, take up any short roles you get and focus on work, there are no shortcuts to success.”

Close bonding with family

It’s in family bonds that Adhvik Mahajan finds true happiness. If he is close to his parents, with his wife he remains a friend first. “We were and are the best of friends, shaadi to bus ho gayi! We keep in touch throughout the day, discuss work and home; extending each other a helping hand through it all.”
