An act of destiny

It doesn’t take even a day for life to take a 360-degree turn. That’s somewhat the story of television actor Shaheer Sheikh, whose decision taken within a minute changed his life forever! “I had no plans of getting into acting. It just happened one day when I was working with a law firm in Pune. Director Wasim Sabir offered me a Disney show Kya Mast Hai Life and I agreed to give it a shot. I remember telling my boss that if I didn’t get through, I’d come back to my job as a lawyer.”

Amazing journey

There was no turning back and today all that matters to Shaheer is what character he is playing on screen. “It’s been one amazing journey. I feel very lucky for the kind of characters that I have done so far. They have taught me different things about life and made me who I am today.” When asked which role has been closest to his heart, he says, “I can’t name any one as my favourite because I’ve enjoyed portraying each one of them, but Mahabharat changed me as a person.”

Shaheer agrees that TV and films influence one’s belief system. “Being a public figure entails huge responsibility. I would never want to be associated with something that I don’t believe in. My job is not only to entertain, but to also give the right message to the masses.”

This young actor likes to take it easy in life and never tries too hard for anything. One such example of his nature, he quotes, “At any given point in my acting career, I’ve committed myself to only one show at a time.”

Up next

When it comes to characters, Shaheer is playing the role of Salim in Colors’ show Dastaan-E-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali. “It is a beautifully written show. It’s a compelling story and playing the larger-than-life character of Salim is a dream role. The dialogues, the sets of this magnum opus are beyond comparison. I know it’s not going to be easy.”
