The team behind the telefilm Saksham — Everyone is Capable

It’s an attempt to bring back the telefilm era (last seen on Doordarshan), an effort to present struggles of society, an endeavour to make the audience pause, reflect and learn.

The telefilm Saksham, with a tagline Everyone is Capable, weaves together the story of a transgender who dreams of becoming a banker; a girl from a conservative Haryanvi family wanting to be a wrestler, an orphan who hopes to be an entrepreneur someday. “The core of the movie is dreams, hopes and struggle. As long as you know who you are, recognise where you want to be and work towards it, nothing is impossible,” director Snehil Sharma, gets started on the core values of his debut project. “There are five stories of people who are from the marginalised section of society. All these characters are interlinked and reveal their true fighting spirit by helping each other.”

Chips in Rahul Singh, who plays an orphan, “There is a Muslim family whose son wants to be a dancer, while their daughter wants to be a doctor. The family’s struggles and emotions are worth watching.”

Apart from the hopes and struggle, underlying any human existence, the movie mirrors the stereotypes in society that often create insurmountable hurdles. The non-commercial film, a joint venture of Adi Shakti and Inside Motion Pictures with the help of Institute of Technology and Future Trends, is all set for a May-end release. It is primarily seeking audience online and on television. “I am hopeful of getting a certificate from Doordarshan. My audience will be basically youngsters sitting on the internet and people at home,” shares the director.

“It is inspired by the real-life story of a transgender, who actually wanted to become a bank manager. Kajal and Simran, who are transgenders, also play pivotal roles,” shares the 27-year-old Snehil. — TNS
