Define a wise man, and while you are doing this, how about extending it to a filmmaker, an actor, a singer or a producer. Well, it would be someone who learns from the mistakes or someone who does the right thing at the right time, someone who doesn’t follow the flock blindly. Interestingly, all these definitions are apt for all wise men for the Punjabi entertainment industry. So, here they are, the wise men of Pollywood, having learnt from the experiences of 2016 will be bringing us a whole new experience in 2017 with new films, scripts and more.

A fresh start

Starting January, Punjabi movie fans will finally get to see the most awaited and talked about film Sarvann, produced by Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures. The movie releases on January 13 and stars Amrinder Gill, Ranjit Bawa and Simmi Chahal in important roles. Priyanka Chopra has already gone to twitter to talk about this film. In fact the entire team of Sarvann made an appearance on the The Kapil Sharma Show. Sardaar Saab directed by Amit Prasher releases on January 6 with Jackie Shroff in the lead role.

Going easy

This year Punjabi filmmakers, producers and distributors will be seen going wiser, slightly more. For there are not many releases in Feburary; in fact not in the entire year. Neeru Bajwa directed Sargi has a release date of Feburary 24. The film stars her sister Rubina, Jassi Gill and Babbal Rai. As Punjab does into elections in Feburary, there is a possibility of shift in the dates.

Star wars

The two sought after Punjabi singer actors of Punjabi film industry, Gippy Grewal and Diljit Dosanjh are also set to increase their fan base, with Gippy ready for two releases this year (as of now), Manje Bistre and Ni Tu Jatt Di Pasand while Diljit Dosanjh will try to weave his magic with Balaji Telefilms production Super Singh, directed by Anurag Singh.

Jimmy, Jimmy...

After Shareek, Punjabi film audience will get to see Jimmy Shergill in Jindua. Directed by Navaniat Singh, the movie also stars Neeru Bajwa and Sargun Mehta. Slated for a March 17 release, this film is supposed to be a love triangle!

Am I right

Year 2016 had been great for young and talented Ammy Virk, and year 2017 too is looking bright for this Nikka Zaildar. As he has two big films releasing this year (or maybe three or four). Nikka Zaildar 2 and Lahoriye are the two films where Ammy Virk will be seen essaying different kind of roles. Also, popular screenplay and dialogue writer Amberdeep Singh turns producer with his film Lahoriye.

Experiment continues

This year, one would get to see Punjabi films which can be slotted as an experiment, whether they succeed or not, we have an entire year for this. Critically acclaimed filmmaker Amardeep Singh Gill comes with his talked about project Jora 10 Numbaria. Punjabi movie buffs will also get to see films based on terrorism in Punjab, Gadri Yodhe and Kharkuwaad are the two films releasing this year based on the subject. There are loads of other films like Roshan Prince’s Arjan, Ranjit Bawa’s Toofan Singh, director Pankaj Batra’s Channa Meriya that come with a promise of a different storyline,

whether the industry keeps this promise, only 2017 will tell?
