In the coming month, Ashmit Patel celebrates his 40th birthday with the release of two films. If he’s kicked professionally, he’s also looking forward to taking the plunge in personal life too! The actor, who was in Chandigarh over the weekend, shares more.

On the ramp

I had assumed that modelling could be a good hobby but no, I hadn’t walked the ramp till I became an actor. I love doing it for the Gentlemen’s Club, which is a friend’s venture. Ramp walking is okay, but yes when you are the show-stopper you got to bring in that attitude. I am happy, so is the designer who got me cheap for it’s a friend’s venture! What are you if you can’t stand by your friends’ side?

Talking movies 

I am kicked about two of my films releasing in January 2018. I have a feeling my 40th birthday is going to be landmark year. Nirdosh is a whodunit; I play one of the five suspects. Though I have worked in similar space, this one is certainly different. I loved doing it and I am sure the audiences are going to love it too. Hamara Tiranga is set in pre-Independence era. I play Deva, a rebellious person ready to challenge the British. It’s a beautiful fictional story.

Telly take

Television is great and I am open to doing reality shows in the adventure segment. But unending soaps are surely not my cup of tea. I did Amma last year, which had a start and finish line; it was great. But I can’t do unending shows where the tracks are TRP-generated. I just got an offer for a very popular show from the biggest television production house, who are getting their show in its third season, but that’s not what I can actually do.

Moderate life

Being from a business family, becoming an actor was never on my agenda. However, life is unpredictable! I am not over- ambitious and despite being in the industry for so many years, I still feel shy to ask for work. Rather in lean periods, I try to improve my craft and give my best in whatever I pick up. I feel blessed that I have received much love from fans and also that there are streets where I can roam free. This moderate life works just fine with me.

Wedding bells

Yes, wedding is definitely on the cards. Right now my house is getting ready. So I am dividing time between Mehack’s house and my parents’ house. I am hoping for a mid-year wedding. [email protected]
