There was a time when Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk wanted to do everything in his career all at once, he wanted to do every project, every song, every film... but after successive movie hits, his Bollywood number Daryaa from the movie Manmarziyaan ruling the charts, and loads of experience, Ammy seems to have entered a space where he can pick and choose projects. But more than this, he seems to have struck a chord with time and how it has a rhythm of its own now, “I am no longer in a hurry to do everything, I am in a zone where I can be a part of good projects and also choose them,” shares the singer-actor who will soon be seen on the silver screen with one such good project- Punjabi film Qismat.

Qismat, apparently, is also a name of the hit single featuring Sargun Mehta. Well, it just becomes important to know what came first Qismat, the song or Qismat, the movie. Ammy, who is currently on the film’s promotional tour, clears this one out for us, “The feel of Qismat, the film, is something like the song; it has love and separation so we decided to name the film Qismat.”

Groups or camps are not an unheard of thing in the Punjabi film industry too, but here it is referred to as being with a set of like-minded people. So does being with likeminded people guaranteea successful project? “Working with the same team only guarantees a better understanding between the crew and of course a better project.”

But wouldn’t the handsome turbanator miss this understating when he does a Bollywood film, which of course he starts shooting next year? The film directed by Kabir Khan is based on cricket World Cup. Ammy allows himself a smile, “One step at a time, I am sure, I would develop an understanding there as well. I am working with a great team, a great director like Kabir Khan; it is going to be a great launch pad.”

A much-thought of one right? “Well, I did not plan on it. My work in Harjeeta got noticed and let’s say, after that I got the film. Though I also feel that a Bollywood film like this will definitely have more viewership, which is good for me. Also let’s see how the audience reacts to me and my role.” A litmus test? “More of an experience, and yes, if everything goes well then I would be in a space to have a say in what I want to do. But everything takes time and I am ready for it.”

As the artiste gears up for his film Qismat, an upcoming one, Muklawa opposite Sonam Bajwa, one can’ help asking him about the constant comparisons with another superstar Diljit Dosanjh. “Diljit bhaji is very senior to me and I have a lot to learn from him, and a long way to go still.”
