Sunday, the July 14th goes down in sports history as one day when four rivals gave scintillating moments for the posterity to cherish. London being the battleground, there was a ‘Super Over’ for cricket and a ‘Tie Breaker’ in tennis! If England and New Zealand kept cricket fans around the globe glued to their TV sets, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic played one of the greatest finals Wimbledon ever saw. Perseverance under pressure, litmus test of strength;this Sunday was a master class in invincibility of  human spirit.

Oh Lord!

"I've never before contemplated watching a men's final from behind the sofa.....#stressful," Councillor Julia McShane's tweet reflects the sentiments. As New Zealand and England ended up on tie, there was frenzy to know all about the 'Super Over'. 

"What a #WorldCupfinal. Unbelievable my entire family is awake," wrote Varun Dhawan, as the nail-biting finish was in the making. "England won the World Cup and New Zealand won our hearts, what a memorable match both the sides have given us," tweeted Taapsee Pannu. "If it was a Hindi film... audience would have said — Kitna filmy climax hai,  asliyat mein kabhi aisa hota hai kya," tweeted Riteish Deshmukh. Tie at 50 overs, tie at Super Over. More boundaries got England the Cup, Karan Johar simplified it once for all, "England had a better kundli! NZ had the better game!!!"

Super stuff 

Closeby in London, the epic four hours, 55 minutes game started with the crowd cheering to royalty first and screams of Roger reverberating next. Federer’s fans marvelled at the 37-year-old’s stamina as Novak Djokovic retained the title. Javed Akhtar took to Twitter to call it, “Undoubtedly it is best match I have ever watched live or on TV”. 

It was like a dream

“I still can’t get over the rush of yesterday at Lord’s,” says film director and an avid cricket player Apoorva Lakhia from London. “It was like a dream. I could not believe what I was watching,” he adds. “I have been fortunate to be present at Lord’s for the greatest game ever played in the history of cricket,” he says.

Not the end of the world

A brilliant innings by Ben Stokes, pressure on Jofra Archer was huge as the hosts took to bowling in the Super Over. Ben had done his bit getting the team to the finish line; it was not-so-seasoned, barely 24, Archer had to deliver. Level it to the optimism of the youth, Archer ‘knew’ it was not end of the world.  Aiding to lift off some of the humongous pressure Ben Stokes offered, “Win or lose, today doesn’t define you. Everyone believes in you.”
