Pendu munda and Chandigarh di kudi is Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta-starrer Qismat for you in a nutshell! Having tasted box-office success, Ammy isn’t conceited; he admits that he has butterflies in his stomach on the eve of the release. “It’s like our result is coming out after putting in months of hard work,” says the rather reticent actor.

Qismat is a rom-com that has Chandigarh girls Sargun playing the lead, a character she quite relates to. “Playing a college girl is easy for me, as I am pretty familiar of who she is and how she goes about life,” says the actress dressed in subdued green.

Beautiful take

While the first half of the film is fun, the second is touching. Just like the super-successful song by the same name, starring this duo. In the short song, Chandigarh was as much a character! “Just like the character I play in Qismat, I too was fascinated by the City Beautiful before I called it home. In this film you will see the beautiful side of the city, which has not been shown ever.”

Ammy sounds a little bitter about his film Harjeeta not getting its due. “We claim we are patriotic, but we actually are not. Wasn’t Harjeeta a befitting subject to watch?” he questions. About romcoms, he adds, “All of us caught in the circle of life want to unwind with a film, so romcoms fit the bill.”

All about promotion

Promotions are a significant part of movie-making process these days. However, despite all the hullaballoo around, with cameras flashing and fans lining up for selfies, these two keep calm.  “We had loads of promotional events that I thoroughly enjoyed,” says the girl. Ammy seconds, “You have made something with so much effort, so you do want it to reach out to people; therefore promotions are necessary.”

The five songs that have been released have got a good response, something that Sargun and Ammy are euphoric about. Both can’t stop humming Kaun Hoye Ga. And, if they believe in qismat... it surely plays its part. Ammy recalls how in his initial days in the city, he would cross JW Marriott and think of exploring it, “Sitting right here, I am glad to have come this far.”

Destiny’s role

Add to qismat, loads of hard work; sweat and tears, chimes in Sargun. “What I am today is due to qismat, but it wouldn’t have worked had I sat pretty at home. It has taken real toil to make it.”

While Sargun hated everything about the profession to begin with, over the years she has come to love and cherish each facet. “Each time I was on screen, my mentor would say, ‘you are still Sargun, you must transform into what you play’.” She now can keep her reel and real persona apart, and is happy being under the spotlight.

Tunes to be proud of
