Braving the cold in winter can be made stylish and comfortable by being up-to-date with the latest trends. Here are some easy and practical ways from our Chandigarh designers to jazz up your winter look.

Add colours to life

Nina B specialises in both Western and Indian wear for women. Be it the fads from the ramp or the much-favoured street styles, her take on this season’s shades is, “The colours that are in this time are fuchsia pink, digital blue, cherry red, lavender, mustard and sea green! By far, these are the prettiest colours replacing the usual greys, blues and blacks that we are so accustomed to for winter.”

And when it comes to adding these hues in your everyday wear, this young designer says, “If you're thinking about how to incorporate these colours into your outfit, don't just think of the usual coloured sweaters when you can easily add a scarf/shawl, bag or accessory in these colours for a chic and trendy look.”

Going beyond jeans and trousers, be open to making use of your dresses and skirts. The way for that is, “Use turtlenecks under your dresses and as tops for skirts. What will give these garment a cosy yet cool look is leggings. Don’t forget to match them according to your dress.”

Bring out your animal instinct

It seems this time the autumn fashion is really wild for animal print. Be it leopard, zebra, tiger- these have been spotted at catwalks. According to Nina, “These prints denote power. For that matter checks are in too and showcase independence. Bring these in your wardrobe through coats, jackets and leggings.” She continues, “In trend or not, layering is the way to go every season! I usually wear a t-shirt with a long tunic style loose sweater with a shawl or jacket and leggings and boots for a comfortable day getting around town.”

West meets East

While we delve into the Western fashion, designer Rachit Khana believes this season gives ample reasons to flaunt ethnic wear. His take is, “Winter is all about weddings and festivity, so ethnic wear comes to our mind automatically. For this season, it’s all about fusion. Ethnic wear in fusion with bell sleeves or drapes is trendy. I would say wines and greens are the colours of this season along with ever graceful pastels. Even rosegold and powder blue are quite in demand.”

Talking about mix and match and layering up, Rachit says, “Mix and match silk blazers with skirts. And go for double-breasted jackets and pants with some embellishments for a party. The best evening wear would be a perfectly fitted golden gown paired with a shrug. You can layer two scarves in casuals and two dupattas in formal.”

Bring on the bling

There is more to the winter trend. Another city designer Gauhar says, “Bling is back. The latest trend this season would surely be anything shiny. And colours trending this season are grey (perfect for am to pm looks), mustard yellow (for the little pop of colour) and olive green (a very subdued and elegant colour).”

If you are thinking of trying something unusual, her advice is, “Go for prints on prints. Try all sizes of stripes or pair a floral dress with animal print jackets.”

Layers of protection

Another out of the box trend noticed by this designer is about layering. She says, “Layering has been ruling the fashion scene since quite a while and people are getting wackier with their imagination. The latest layering trend seen on the runway was wide-leg pants with a summer dress and a bomber jacket!”

If you are a lover of casual-cum-formal look, this would surely interest you. According to Gauhar, “Athleisure looks are really trending this season. Pair your track suit with heels or a LBD with sneakers.”

And finally, for a perfect evening wear, she says, “Go for a cape or a velvet blazer jacket with formal trousers.”

So, what are you waiting for? Be it fabric, print or style, you now have motley of options to look your trendiest best. Stay warm, stay fashionable.
