My dad passed away a year-and-half back. The most important thing I learnt from my dad was to keep life simple. He was the most uncomplicated person I have ever known. I have never seen him badmouth anyone ever in my life, even those who wronged him. We would speak without fail every day and even now sometimes if my phone rings between 8-9 pm I think it’s him only to realise that he’s gone.

Do what is right

I have a very friendly relationship with my father. He has been a loving and supportive dad. I can discuss anything under the sun and I am sure that I get the best and honest advice from him. One advice that he gave me years back was to never ever think ‘what people will say’ while making important decisions in life. Do what is right according to you.

My father is my hero, guiding light, strength and inspiration. He always says ‘work is worship’. He was a naval officer. Discipline and politeness are his principles in life. That’s what I learnt from him.

To be independent

Usually on Father’s Day, I’m not with my dad. I’m in Mumbai and he is in Shimla. So, I end up doing a video call to him. The biggest lesson my dad has taught me is to be independent, both financially and emotionally. He still teaches me how to invest money because he believes in saving and investing more than spending. This Father’s Day I have a special surprise for him. I will be gifting him his favourite car.

Honesty matters

I lost my father, mother and my elder sister along with six relatives in the Kedarnath flood in 2013. With my father, I had a very strong connection which I was never able to communicate openly to him. Like a traditional family, no open discussions were possible between us. Hard work, honesty and helpful nature are the great lessons that I learnt from him and will never forget.
