Who do you credit your victory to?

It cannot be one person as it takes a village of people to put you on a spot that big. Throughout my journey, my mother has been my biggest inspiration and will continue to be in my future endeavours. Apart from all those who have prayed for my win and sent their blessings, I would like take the name of Natasha Grover, who heads Miss India organisation that groomed me and prepared me for this competition.

Throughout the journey, what has been the biggest learning?

The transformation I have had is immense, if I look back at where I started my journey in this pageant. I am more confident and clear about my goals than ever and would love to empower more women through my work in Miss Universe organisation.

Was it hard to believe that you have won the Miss Universe title?

It will take some time for this big victory to sink in but first and foremost, this is the victory of our nation. I am very happy to bring the crown to India. I had always told my parents, Ki tuhanu naaz houga mere te, te pure desh nu. And I hope that I was able to achieve it with everybody’s blessings and people are proud of me.

What’s the crown like from up close?

Honestly, I couldn’t take my eyes off it ever since I laid eyes on it. It’s still an overwhelming and unbelievable feeling. Jitna khoobsoorat hai utna hi responsibility ka ehsaas bhi karaata hai.

Since you love acting, what’s the next step? Acting in films?

I don’t know yet. But I enjoy acting and would like to do inspiring characters in films. — Sheetal
