Eyebrow transplant has become a popular solution for those looking for the perfect shape

Dr Vikas Sharma

Eyebrows are the most expressive feature and create a masterline of the face. It is the reference point towards which all other angles and contours of the face are set. Because eyebrows carry an aesthetic appeal of the face, it’s quite common for people to modify eyebrows to achieve the desired shape, form, length and density.

Apart from aesthetic requirements, there are several instances when people opt for eyebrow transplant, like due to the impact of over plucking, illness, cut or scar, trauma, thin eyebrows or eyebrow hair loss due to hormonal imbalance or disorders.

Revolutionary technique

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant is a revolutionary way to address the eyebrow hair loss. With growing awareness about the procedure, eyebrow transplant has become a popular aesthetic solution. However, though it is a small area, it requires a lot of precision regarding anatomy, designing of brows, extraction and implantation technique.

This is a very delicate procedure, requiring perfect placement of the hairs into tiny half-millimeter incisions that are angled at just the right direction and positioned to mimic natural growth. The use of all-microscopically dissected grafts allows their placement into the smallest possible incisions so as to minimise scarring and damage to already existing hairs.

A procedure typically involves the placement of 50 to as many as 325 hair into each eyebrow, depending upon the existing amount of hair and the desired size and density. Performed usually under local anesthesia, the two-hour procedure is essentially painless, as is the recovery period.

How is it done…

Eyebrow hair transplantation is performed as an in-office, outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. General anesthesia is not required. Eyebrow transplants are the best way to achieve permanent, three-dimensional eyebrows. With transplantation, your own hair is transferred typically from the back of the head to your brow region to create a new, fuller eyebrow. Hair grow naturally and are permanent. It is being preferred over techniques like microblading. Microblading is a method by which pigment is used to create the appearance of hairs within the very outer layers of the skin. This process is not real hair, does not give a three-dimensional look, and tends to fade over time, so it’s a process that needs to be repeated to maintain results.

While in eyebrow transplant, the transplanted hair is real, permanent, give a three dimensional look and continue to grow. The eyebrow transplant results will be visible normally after a couple of months of procedure. The full impact will be visible over the course of the next 6-7 months. The FUE method of facial hair transplantation offers minimal aftercare and downtime, and significantly less risk of any scarring.
