Punjabi singer Karan Sehmbi is all set to release his song Aameen on May 26. With the curfew lifted, in no time the teaser was made. That’s an artiste’s life, keeping the public entertained even in tough times.

This voice of Punjab was appreciated for his song, Photo, in the film Luka Chuppi. Karan and his lyricist friend Nirmaanstarted working on Aameen in the first week of March. As they spent the quarantine period together, it gave them enough time to work on several new songs.

How has it been to live in a lockdown?

I tend to enjoy whatever life throws at me. Even before the lockdown, my routine was pretty much about staying at home. The only difference is that now I cannot leave the house to record a song in the studio.

Any lessons from this difficult time?

Planning never works! No matter if you have it all sorted, life and nature will surprise you each time with a curve ball. And suddenly the rules will be changed. But, the catch is, this time it changed for everybody around us.

If you had a choice, who would you like to be quarantined with?

I was happy with the element of surprise. I spent my lockdown with Nirmaan, who has written the song Aameen, which will be released on May 26. If given a choice, I would still choose him as my quarantine partner. We bonded really well and managed to work on few songs as well exchanged lots of thoughts on music.

What changes do you predict after the lockdown?

I think everybody will now understand the importance of hygiene and the precautions to be taken while stepping out. The rules were imposed for our own safety and now that it’s lifted, our civic responsibility will increase. Everyone must know how to prevent the disease from spreading further.

The first thing you would do after the lockdown?

I have been here in Chandigarh the entire period and my parents are in Ludhiana. They visited me just once for they had some important work in Chandigarh when the curfew was lifted. I am planning to visit my home in Ludhiana in the coming week.

Lockdown cravings...

I like healthy homecooked food but because it lasted longer than we thought, I craved for chicken, which was later resolved. Also, I sometimes miss having pao-bhaji from a particular roadside rehri in 3B2 market, Mohali.

What is your take-home message from this global pandemic?

Life goes on... We all fight to survive and we find ways to work around the new rules. Look at the positive side of things and nothing can stress you.

A word of hope for Punjab...

I am just another person in the crowd and I pray for the well-being of humanity. Follow the government imposed rules to stay out of trouble and eventually we will win this together.
