The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were held on Sunday in front of a limited audience. Adhering to social distancing guidelines, the stages were set at different locations in New York City. Lady Gaga became the first-ever recipient of the ‘Tricon Award’. She performed a medley of her songs from Chromatica, including Rain On Me, featuring Ariana Grande. The singer appeared in nine different outfits with customised face shields and masks.

MTV dedicated the awards show to Chadwick Boseman, calling the Black Panther star, whose death last week at age 43 shocked fans around the world, a ‘true hero’. Opening the annual ceremony dedicated to the best in pop music, host Keke Palmer called Boseman ‘an actor whose talent and passion was a true inspiration to all the fans he touched, and everyone he encountered.”

Another highlight of the event included a tribute to Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor by The Weeknd. VMAs 2020 will be aired on Vh1 India on September 1 at 9am and September 5 at 8 pm. It can be streamed on Voot Select also.
