Model-turned-actor Aakansha Sareen, who was seen in songs like Jaan, Paune Ath and Dil Darda, is returning to screen soon with Punjabi films Gurumukh and Pind Sarangpur. This Nangal-born gorgeous actress likes doing films which a common man can relate to.

Was it a conscious decision to join Pollywood?

No, it was destiny. I was acting in television shows, but I never thought I would be in Pollywood. I am a part of the Punjabi industry by chance.

Your filmography exhibits mixed bag of films. Which space do you enjoy the most?

I am frequently asked this question. Honestly, I enjoy realistic films. Films that a common man can relate to.

What prompts you to take up a role?

A script should be so beautiful that you want to be a part of it. I avoid roles that make me uncomfortable in front of my family.

How was it working in films like Jagga Jiunda E, Mitti: Virasat Babbaran Di and Dulla Vaily? Which one is closest to your heart?

It was a great experience working in these three very different films. My favourite is Mitti: Virasat Babbaran Di. It was produced by Hema Malini. I got an opportunity to meet and interact with her.

Do you remember the best compliment you got for your acting?

My producers think that I am a one-take artiste. It is the best compliment.

Is it tough to be yourself in showbiz?

Yes, it is. I would not lie. Sometimes you have to pretend to be something you are not. It is a part of the business.

How do you think you have evolved as an artiste?

I have become very confident.

What has been your biggest learning from Pollywood?

Keep working hard and success will ultimately follow you. Never wait for brands to sign you or run after them, keep doing your work honestly and become a brand yourself.

A role that you would say no to.

If a role has vulgarity, nudity and intimacy.

Have you learnt new things during this quarantine time?

Yes, baking. I can make cakes and puddings too.

What changes do you see in yourself post Covid-19 pandemic?

I have started valuing my work. I missed working during lockdown and realised its importance and how much happiness it gives me.

Name two Punjabi dishes you like the most?

Saag-makki di roti, and rajma-chawal.

Which is your favourite Punjabi film?

Jatt and Juliet.

Favourite Punjabi songs?

Jatt hunde aa… by Prem Dhillon at the moment.

One thing about Punjabis you like the most?

They have a big heart. They make friends quickly.

When was the last time you performed Gidha?

In school probably.

If given a choice, would you do a web series?

Why not, if the subject is good and my character has weight!

Prominent places you would recommend to your fans to visit in Punjab?

Virasat-e-Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib and The Golden Temple.

What is your fitness mantra?

I work out four days a week and eat small portions.
