Tarnvir Singh Jagpal says his favourite genres are family drama and spiritual themes

The youngest director of Punjabi cinema Tarnvir Singh Jagpal made his debut with the film Rabb Da Radio for which he received the Best Film (Critics) Award. Tarnvir gets candid with us and tells us about his upcoming films Yes I Am Student with Sidhu Moosewala, Mandy Takhar and Daana Paani Part 2 with Jimmy Shergill.

Your debut film Rabb Da Radio created waves in the Punjabi industry which was followed by Jimmy Shergill-starrer Daana Paani. What do you have to say?

It’s just blessings of God and my commitment to give my best.

As a director what do you think works in your favour?

Right now only good content is ‘a boss’ and we are concentrating on it.

Every director wants creative freedom. Do your producers give you that?

Yes, 100 per cent. I get creative freedom to do my best.

What kinds of stories interest you?

Family drama and spiritual concept are my favourite zones.

How has been your journey so far in Pollywood?

My journey in the Punjabi industry has been very good so far with the blessings of God and support of my well wishers.

How easy or difficult has it been to make your space in this industry?

Very easy. It is all because of God’s grace, hard work and with the support of my entire technical team.

Where do you see yourself five years down the line?

Nobody knows actually. But hard work always pays.

How do you choose your actors?

Stories choose actors.

What are your future projects?

My upcoming projects are Daana Paani Part 2 with Jimmy Shergill and Gunah with Sidhu Moosewala. Both have different concepts. My third film as a director is Yes I Am Student and its first look will be releasing on April 13. This one is Sidhu Moosewala’s debut movie as a lead.

In your career you have explored a lot. What is next on your wish-list?

My ultimate aim is to rock Bollywood one day.

There is a big craze for OTT in India. Would you like to direct a web series?

Very soon. —Dharam Pal
