When will I see you again…

The separation pang in the time of Covid-19 finds an expression in Akull Tandon’s romantic song Bahana

When will I see you again…

A still from Bahana

Koi karke bahana, sanu mil mahi ve… Ni main kale kale karna ni chill mahi ve…

Goes the lyrics of Akull Tandon’s latest song Bahana. With hits like Laal Bindi, I Love You and Laal Chunariya under his belt, the singer-composer-producer is all set to enthrall his fans with Bahana. It’s a song, he says, that will touch the hearts of lovers across India because, “MellowD, the lyricist, has beautifully captured the feeling of separation that many couples have dealt with during the lockdown. And through the video, we have showcased the emotional journey of a couple from happier times together to a point where they are left reminiscing those times and can’t wait to be with each other again.”

The song is part sad, part romantic and even when it denotes a profound emotion of yearning, Akull has made sure to give his quirky touch to it.

What makes it special for the singer is not just that he recorded it during the lockdown phase but also the fact that it carries forward the story of his last song I love you. The model-actors in both the songs are same. “Livia, the female artiste, lives in Dubai. So, we shot and directed the video one part in Mumbai, the other in Dubai. It was challenging but we loved the process. This is in its true sense the lockdown song for lovers since it is organic and creative even with all the restrictions of this time.”

As the song ends, Akull explains that the video hints at a third part to the series. “I plan to put out more music, not just as a singer but also as a composer.” Just like for this one he wore many hats. “I’ve done the direction, music composition, production and have also featured in it. But in my upcoming songs, I will also work with other artistes; compose their songs.”

He has made songs for singers, including Hardy Sandhu, Prakriti-Sukriti and Shaal Mali among others. He has also produced music for the title track of the movie Malang, which made for his Bollywood debut.

He may have brought out this new number but it’s been a work-from-home-assignment. And being homebound meant, “A lot of working out, house work, spending hours in the studio and most importantly learning cooking. I never used to cook and now it has become a regular thing. I’ve even learnt skipping rope and watched a lot of shows on OTT platforms. It’s something I never had time for but really wanted to.”
