Look inward: Cong after Maken-Deora spat on Twitter

New Delhi, February 17

After a Twitter spat between Ajay Maken and Milind Deora today, the Congress advised young and old leaders to introspect over the contributions they had made to their roles and areas.

“It would be better to look inward and see what contributions you have made to your areas and is you worked to strengthen the Congress,” party media head Randeep Surjewala said after former Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora posted a tweet praising Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, provoking former Delhi Congress president Ajay Makan to tell Deora to leave if he wanted to.

“Brother, you want to leave the Congress. Please do. Then propagate half-baked facts! However, let me share even lesser known facts. In 1997-1998 BE (Revenue) was Rs 4,073 crore; 2013-14-BE (Revenue) was Rs 37,459 cr. During Congress government revenue grew at 14.87 pc Compound Annual Growth Rate. 2015-16 BE was Rs 41,129 crore and in 2019-20 BE was Rs 60,000 crore. Under AAP Government compound annual growth rate was 9.90 pc,” Maken tweeted after Deora earlier posted hailing the AAP’s performance.

Deora’s previous tweet read, “Sharing a lesser known and welcome fact - the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government doubled its revenues to Rs 60,000 crore and maintained a revenue surplus over the last five years. Food for thought: Delhi is now one of India’s most fiscally prudent governments.”

After Maken advised Deora to leave Congress if he wanted to, Deora wrote back saying he would never undermine Sheila Dikshit’s stellar performance as Delhi CM.

As the war of words heated, Congress advised leaders to exercise caution. — TNS
