Prices of vegetables have come down to some extent after a gap of almost four to five months giving much relief to all, especially families with meagre income.

One of the retail vendors at Dandi Swami Road, Gurmeet Singh, said, “Veggie price soared after ‘Rakhi’. After four to five months, these have come down. Vegetable prices will remain stable for another three to four months.”

The price of onions, which reached Rs 65 per kg, has now come down to Rs 40 to Rs 45 per kg, while tomatoes too have seen a decline from Rs 60 to Rs 45 per kg. Potatoes are now selling at Rs 15 per kg instead of Rs 20 per kg. The price of peas has come down from Rs 200 per kg to Rs 100 per kg. Similarly, cauliflower earlier sold at Rs 100 is now available at Rs 50 per kg. Coriander selling at Rs 200 per kg can be bought at Rs 100 per kg. Ginger selling at Rs 200 per kg four days ago, was available for Rs 100 per kg today. Consumers can buy sarson saag at Rs 30 per kg instead of Rs 50 per kg.

“The wedding season is on. The veggie prices will remain stable for three to four months. New produce has started arriving in mandis. Vegetables from local market including Malerkotla and Hoshiarpur will also start arriving and make prices more reasonable,” said Gurmeet.
