The Patiala police have arrested a drug peddler from Ludhiana and seized 1 kg heroin from his possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma said a police team from the Shambhu police station, led by SHO Swaran Singh, was conducting vehicle checking at the Mehmadpur barrier. A pedestrian coming from the Ambala side was stopped on suspicion. On noticing the police, the suspect threw an envelope and attempted to flee, but was overpowered.
A search of the envelope led to the seizure of 1 kg heroin. The accused was identified as Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Krishna Colony in the Rahon road area of Ludhiana.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Shambhu police station. The accused was produced in a court, which granted police remand.
“The police will conduct an in-depth interrogation to uncover the backward and forward links of the drug-trafficking network. Legal action will also be taken against others involved,” said Swaran Singh.
