The school management received the threats via email, causing panic among the school administration and staff. The schools are being evacuated.
After the threat emails Ludhiana police, bomb squads, and dog squads rushed the schools. As a precautionary measure, the school premises are being evacuated, and police teams are thoroughly searching the area. A heavy police force has been deployed outside the schools.
As soon as the news spread, panicked parents began rushing to the school to pick up their children. The administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and restraint. The cyber cell is also tracking the IP address of the threatening email to identify the sender. The police are also investigating whether this was a prank or a larger conspiracy.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said police teams are checking the schools. Bomb squad teams have been deployed.
Additional DCP Sameer Verma said about 10 schools had received bomb threat emails and so far nothing objectionable was found. Still police checking was on.
Notably this isn't the first case of threats against schools. Several schools have received bomb threats before. On February 10, 16 schools in Mohali received threats. The email, sent around 7:30 a.m., stated that a bomb blast would occur at 1:11 p.m.
Police conducted a thorough investigation, but nothing suspicious was found.
