15 farmers booked for burning stubble

LUDHIANA: Continuing with the drive against burning of paddy straw, the city police yesterday booked seven farmers.

Continuing with the drive against burning of paddy straw, the city police yesterday booked seven farmers.

They have been identified as Jasvir Singh, Jagmeet Singh and Harjit Singh, all residents of Kila Raipur; Ricky Singh of Mehma Singh Wala, Darshan Singh and Buta Singh, both residents of Aasi Kalan; and Navjot Singh of Jassowal.

The complainant, Santosh Kumar, nodal officer-cum-agricultural development officer, Kalakh village, Pakhowal Road, told the police that during patrolling of villages, he found these farmers burning the paddy residue. Cases under section 188, IPC, have been registered against them.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana rural police also booked eight farmers for the same offence. The Dakha police booked Kartar Kaur and Amar Singh, both residents of Kailpur village; and Rashid Mohammad of Gahaur village. The Jagraon police booked Avtar Singh of Kothe Rahala village. At Hathur, Buta Singh of Jhorda village, Baljit Singh and Gurmel Singh, both residents of Hathur, were also booked. Similarly, the Sudhar police booked Darshan Singh of Mohi village for burning paddy stubble. — TNS
